MEALTIME
Mealtime is 'sacred'.
Treat it as such.
Remember watching (even if only in re-runs) how TV families would gather around the dinner table and share their day? Laugh. Eat. Laugh. And, eat some more?
And, have you watched any of Nickelodean's efforts to resurrect that experience?
Well, whether or not you have children, shared mealtime is vital to any relationship.
It's when not only laughs can be heard, but also problems and questions can be aired. It's a time for couples to stare lovingly at one another.
Yes, I realize that most of you have exceptionally busy lives. And, that mealtime is one of the few 'expendable' periods of your day.
That said, it is in reality not something to easily dismiss.
For without it, many couples only relax or share moments when in bed. And, there are certainly better activities to engage in than pure conversation.
Another pet peeve of many in a marriage is that mealtime is easily interrupted.
We don't want to tolerate interruptions when watching Dancing With The Stars or Law and Order. Yet, we don't seem to mind dinner breaks caused by cell phones, doorbells, or text messages.
What you need to do. Each of you. Is to shut off or otherwise ignore possible interruptions. What would happen if your technology was on the blink or you were not home?
Please do not trivialize this. It matters more than you can imagine. And, we deserve and need every 'edge' that we can get, in our attempts to improve the quality of our marrige.
